From shoppers to members to engineers, marketers, and our shopper appreciation team, it’s the people who make Shipt, Shipt. In this series, we get to know the members of our diverse community, from their grocery list staples to their proudest work moments.
Born and raised in “The Magic City,” Rulonda B. has witnessed her hometown transform since a small startup called Shipt first arrived in 2014. Now, as an Experience Team (X-Team) Commander, Rulonda is part of the team that works to make sure the not-so-small startup runs like a well-oiled machine. Whether through one-on-one support with an HQ teammate or helping a member navigate the app, the X-Team focuses on creating a supportive work environment and helping members, shoppers and HQ workers with everyday problems. An Auburn Tiger through and through, Rulonda is there to help everyone at Shipt – even the University of Alabama grads. Keep reading to learn more about Rulonda and her favorite Birmingham spots.
What excites you most about your job?
Getting to work with so many different people. This is one of the most diverse environments I have ever had the pleasure to be part of. I’ve met so many people from different walks of life, all with their own unique backstory. Each day is exciting for me because every time I answer the phone, I get to “meet” someone new and learn their story. Being able to help people and be a part of their development, both professional and personal, is really rewarding.
What’s always on your grocery list?
My favorite food in the entire world is Publix Deli Artichoke and Spinach Dip – I can go through a container in a week! It’s always the top of my grocery list.
If you could deliver groceries to anyone in the world, who would it be?
The first person that comes to mind is Oprah. Delivering groceries often leads to the most unexpected conversations with people and she is definitely someone that I’d love the opportunity to talk with. I think she would have incredible wisdom on every topic, grocery-related or not, and it would be enchanting.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Birmingham right now?
I really love Top Golf. Growing up in Birmingham, nothing like that has ever existed here, as far as I know. I’ve been mini-golfing but this is a whole different beast.
What’s your favorite Shipt memory?
Last year’s Christmas party – it was so much fun. I’m usually not a huge party goer, but I’m so glad that I went. I was there for so long and got spend all that time with some of my favorite people. I say it all the time – this is the best group of people you are ever going to meet and I am so lucky to get to spend time with so many wonderful people.
