It’s been one heck of a year. Nobody knows that better than Shipt Shoppers. Through unprecedented times – both the world’s and their own – they’ve gone above and beyond to ensure our members have received their groceries and household essentials when they’ve needed them most.
To show our appreciation, we’ve brought back our annual Shipt It Forward event. And this year, we’re going big. We’ve selected not just 1 but 5 stellar shoppers from around the country to receive a $1,000 delivery of the items they love and need the most. Because that’s what the holidays are about: showing gratitude and giving back to the community.
Our winners were selected from a pool of more than 500 shoppers, each one nominated by a fellow shopper who saw their nominee going above and beyond – not just for Shipt, but in life. Like Gabe H., from our hometown of Birmingham. A husband and a father of 2, Gabe recently quit his job to care for the kids and allow his wife to pursue her career. Shopping for Shipt has provided the family a flexible second income – something his nominating shoppers, Chris H. and Blakely S., said has made the transition far easier.
Many shoppers share an appreciation for the freedom Shipt allows in navigating life’s obstacles. Just ask Gerald B., a Shipt Shopper in Philadelphia who nominated his friend Kessar H. A mother of three, Kessar is living with two autoimmune diseases, and she has her sights set on a college degree. “She’s the kind of person who never wants pity,” Gerald said. When she’s feeling well, she puts her perfectionism to work shopping for Shipt. And when she’s not, she has the freedom to rest. Said Gerald, “Shipt offers her the perfect job.”
Yvonne S. in New Orleans is no stranger to life’s unforeseen circumstances, either. After losing her job during the pandemic, she began working for Shipt to support not only herself but also her two teenage sons. “She’s rocking it,” said her nominating shopper, Denna P., as she loads her cart with electronics and household goods to surprise Yvonne.
Our youngest Shipt Shopper to receive a $1,000 delivery is Axel T. from Minneapolis. He started working with Shipt last spring, during his senior year in high school. Though he was able to save enough money last summer to buy his first car, it broke down shortly thereafter – leaving him with a loan but no ride. To help cover the loan, and pay college tuition, he shops for Shipt whenever he can. “He does his job with a contagious sense of joy,” said Axel’s nominating shopper, Frederique T. “The world is a better place because he’s in it.”
It’s a common sentiment. In Seattle, shopper Kimberly S. nominated her friend LaQuinta M., who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. Though she hasn’t shopped for Shipt during the pandemic, LaQuinta has been known to go to great lengths to fulfill members’ requests, even after she’s left the store. “Her heart is so kind,” Kimberly said. “I’ve never met an individual so giving of herself, even if it costs her.”
Selflessness, optimism, perseverance – this is what Shipt It Forward is all about. And we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate that spirit with the people who embody it best. Watch the video and see for yourself: This is one community we could all take a cue from.
