On April 9th and 10th, more than 1000 Shipt Shoppers arrived in Birmingham to attend the first ever Shipt Shopper Summit, Beyond. Over the course of two days, Shipt Shoppers from across the country came together to meet one another, hear from the Shipt leadership team and share their stories.
We’re so lucky to have such a strong and wonderful community who takes the time to show up for one another and go above and beyond for our members. If you joined us in Birmingham, thank you. If you weren’t able to make it this year, we’ve recapped the highlights so you can experience the magic of Beyond at home. Read on for a recap of all things Beyond 2019.
We kicked off the Summit by welcoming our shoppers to The Haven – a 90-year-old piece of Birmingham’s history with the perfect amount of Southern charm. The room was filled with dancing, food, and the chatter of shoppers meeting for the first time. With outdoor games and an incredible lineup of activities, shoppers were able to interact with one another, HQ members and Shipt’s new CEO, Kelly Caruso!

The second day of Beyond opened at the historic Alabama Theatre with Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin introducing our very own Kelly Caruso. Kelly shared her love for Shipt and her vision for our future, imagining “more ingenuity, more innovation, more hustle.”
Before leaving the stage, Kelly had one more surprise for shoppers. You may have heard the big news by now; Shipt is partnering with Petco nationwide to extend same day delivery “from the dinner table to the dog bowl,” as Kelly put it. After all, we’d realized that Shipt’s offerings were missing a certain furry member of the family! The Petco news was met with cheers from shoppers – I mean have you seen our Pets of Shipt Instagram?
Shopper App Updates
Building off this excitement, our product team took the stage to announce major updates to the shopper app. The team –– Chace Burnette, Rushir Parikh, and Maggie Barnes –– shared Shipt’s goals for the app and updates to improve the shopper experience. Sorting by category is now even more seamless and item images are featured more prominently, along with a new tool to determine how much of a weighted item is needed to complete an order. Also, shoppers were thrilled to hear that Shipt has created a new classification for yogurt! Check out all the newly announced app updates here.
Our favorite part of Beyond, and certainly the most emotional aspect, was hearing shoppers’ stories, whether on a panel, over lunch, or in focus groups. Harley Butler and Sheila Grady from our brand and marketing team laid out plans to continue Shipt’s nationwide momentum in 2019 by telling stories about Shipt Shoppers.
Throughout Beyond, shoppers from across the country shared why Shipt matters to them and what it’s brought to their lives. Stories ranged from their relationships with other shoppers to member friendships to a better sense of direction (both in life, and on the road!).
Did we mention that we gave away a car? Shoppers played a variety of games to compete for a chance to win a Shipt-branded 2019 Toyota Corolla. After a series of challenges such as stacking cans, memorizing a grocery list, and tossing items into a grocery cart – Michigan-based shopper Chuck went home with the grand prize covered in confetti.
We’re already missing our shoppers here at Shipt HQ, but we’re so grateful for the opportunity to come face-to-face with so many of our new friends across the country. And we can’t wait for the next time you visit us at Shipt HQ!
