From the Shipt Kitchen: Pizza Two Ways

Deep fried or deep dish? Thick crust or thin? Everybody has their preferences, but we can all agree on this: nothing beats a good slice of pizza. To celebrate our expansion across the U.S. we’re sharing two of our favorite regional pizza recipes…with a cast iron twist. These pizzas require no fancy equipment, all you need is dough, an oven and your favorite toppings! Ready in less than 45 minutes, these recipes are perfect for those times when your family can’t decide what kind of pizza they want…now, you can just make both!

Pizza Two Ways


Pizza Dough (makes 2 servings)

  • 1 1/3 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 1/4 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • Olive oil

Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza

  • 1 serving pizza dough
  • Olive oil, to drizzle
  • 3 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup onions, chopped
  • 2 ground Italian sausages, cooked
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded

Southern Fried Chicken Pizza

  • 1 serving pizza dough
  • Olive oil, to drizzle
  • 1 1/4 cups sausage gravy
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup collard greens, cooked
  • 2 cups fried chicken, cooked and sliced
  • 3 tbsp cheddar cheese, shredded


Pizza Dough

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar and yeast, set aside for five minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together flour and salt, then add the yeast mixture. Combine to create dough.
  3. Knead dough for 5-10 minutes, then place in a bowl coated with olive oil. Let dough rise for 90 minutes.
  4. After the dough has risen, divide into 2 servings. Use a rolling pin to roll out each serving individually, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza

  1. In a cast iron skillet, flatten the pizza dough on the bottom and along the sides of the skillet, then brush with olive oil.
  2. Add tomato sauce and then layer ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, onion, sausage and pepperoni.
  3. Sprinkle Parmesan over the top and bake at 425ºF for 20-30 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

Southern Fried Chicken Pizza

  1. In a cast iron skillet, flatten the pizza dough on the bottom of the skillet, then brush dough with olive oil.
  2. Pour the sausage gravy over the dough, then top with mozzarella cheese, collard greens, fried chicken and cheddar cheese.
  3. Bake at 425ºF for 20-30 minutes and dig in!
