Healthy Food Swaps for the New Year

It’s 2019 and our resolution this year is to continue serving up the tastiest treats we can find. To kick off the year, we’re sharing a few easy ways you can stick to your resolution of eating better, without sacrificing on flavor. By swapping out a few ingredients for fresh alternatives like avocado, zucchini and banana, these three recipes put a healthier spin on beloved classics like chicken salad, ice cream and fries. Who says healthier can’t taste great too?

Healthy Food Swaps Recipes


Swap Mayo for Avocado

  • 1 large avocado, diced
  • 2 cups chicken, shredded
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 cup of red onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 large croissant

Swap French Fries for Veggie Fries

  • 4 zucchini
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Swamp Ice Cream for Banana “Ice Cream”

  • 3 frozen bananas, chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cocoa
  • 2 tbsp almond butter
  • 1/4 cup milk

Swap Mayo for Avocado

  1. In a large bowl, combine avocado, chicken, cilantro, lime, red onion, salt and pepper.
  2. Mix together with a large spoon until the chicken salad is well combined.
  3. Fill a croissant with chicken salad and enjoy!

Swap French Fries for Veggie Fries

  1. In a bowl, mix together panko, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper until well combined.
  2. In a second bowl, add eggs and beat thoroughly with a fork or whisk.
  3. In a third bowl, add flour.
  4. Cut the zucchini into long narrow strips. One by one, dip each piece of zucchini into the flour, then the egg mixture, then fully coat with the Panko mixture and place on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake the zucchini fries at 425ºF for 20-25 minutes or until golden-brown.
  6. Dip the fries into your favorite condiment and enjoy!

Swamp Ice Cream for Banana “Ice Cream”

  1. In a food processor, combine bananas, cocoa, almond butter, vanilla extract and milk.
  2. Mix well until the bananas are a thick and creamy texture. Freeze the banana “ice cream,” as needed.
  3. Serve in a bowl or cone and eat up!
