We can certainly understand how Corpus Christi earned its nickname: the Sparkling City by the Sea. This coastal town seems worlds away from the hustle and bustle of our other Texas cities. After gathering some much-needed insight from a few of our awesome Corpus Christi shoppers, we were excited to start exploring the city and celebrate the expansion of our relationship with H-E-B!
To get a taste of the local flavor, we stopped by Eleanor’s Coffee Bar and Market for our morning breakfast and brew. As (self-proclaimed) coffee experts, we can say that Eleanor’s did not disappoint. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing smoothie bowl or a homemade scone, the menu has plenty of options to kick-start your day!
With coffee number two (and maybe another scone…) in hand, we headed just around the corner to Hybrid Records. This hole in the wall gem is filled with vinyl records, turntables, CDs and cassettes from the days of The Hot Tamales and Neil Young. Doesn’t ring a bell? No worries! Do a little digging and you might find a few original Star Wars soundtracks and maybe even some Madonna from the days of “Hey, Mr. DJ.” Even if you don’t consider yourself a music buff, Hybrid is well-worth the visit for a nostalgic walk down memory lane.
Doing as the locals do, we visited the city’s only soda fountain for some old-fashioned favorites and macaroons. Hamlin Pharmacy treated us to some great service and we picked up some treats from from their One Love Bake Shop for the road.
Next stop – the Loteria Mural. For those of us who appreciate a good Instagram photo op, this is the spot. Completed just last year, the exhibit features 54 panels of artwork that represent a full deck of Loteria cards. If you’ve never played, Loteria is similar to bingo, but uses images on a deck of cards instead of plain numbers on ping pong balls.
While “everything is bigger in Texas,” may be true for most cities, here in Corpus Christi, it’s easy to feel like a part of this close-knit local community. We welcome you to the Shipt family with open arms, Corpus Christi. To both the lucky locals and friendly visitors, enjoy your city! While you’re at it, let us get the groceries!
