Local Love: Walking in Memphis

Today we’ve landed in Memphis. It’s been a long time coming and we are so pumped to be delivering groceries straight to your door!

We got the chance to wander these Memphian streets which reminded us exactly why we came here. It is the epitome of rock ‘n roll. The streets are filled with bright neon lights and soulful tunes. Each corner hosts new life to an old school era. You can now walk like a Memphian with all the extra time you’ll be saving by skipping the grocery store!

After gathering some local insight from our Memphis shoppers, we made a list of our faves so far.

Central BBQ

We’re no stranger to barbecue at Shipt. With each new launch, we always come back to our southern roots by staking out the best barbecue around town. Thanks to some locals, Central BBQ was our first stop along the way. Known for its slow smokers and deep-fried cooking, this hidden treasure hosts tons of flavor. Our personal favorite? The BBQ nachos. Layered in steamy pulled pork, cheese and BBQ sauce, this delicious app will fill you up quicker than you can say grocery delivery.

Arcade Restaurant

Did you know Arcade Restaurant is the oldest cafe in Memphis? We kicked off the morning with bacon, french toast, and biscuits. We can see why it is a local favorite. This family-friendly diner is filled with smiling faces and good laughs. By the way, the beignets were our top choice!

Shipt HQ is currently going through renovations and we got the opportunity to submit names for the office meeting rooms. Everyone voted and the winners got their HQ room named. We’re a little disappointed the name “Graceland” wasn’t submitted now after visiting this amazing site.  Home to rock ‘n’ roll legend, Elvis Presley, this private home turned tourist attraction is the second most-visited home in the United States (its victor being the White House). Graceland captured our hearts with its pristine rocker condition and architecture. The vintage sofas, shaggy carpet and paneled cabinets evoke a nostalgia we can’t get enough of! Its southern charm made us feel right at home.

Beale Street District

In true Memphian-style, we took a stroll down Beale Street and fell in love with this city a little more. Tunes pour into the streets, neon lights up the skyline, and a strong aroma of southern cooking fills the air. Proud personalities made us feel right at home and pointed us toward the best blues bar in town!

BB King’s Blues Club

We begin our journey to BB King’s Blues Club! The walls are dressed with rocker memorabilia. However, the music was our favorite part. The King Beez were performing and sang throwbacks from Aretha Franklin to the Commodores. Live music is a regular thing here, which makes for a perfect night out with the family.

Stax Museum

We love the historic background the Stax Museum provides to its visitors. You’ve got to check out this hub for more insight on the Memphis musical pioneers who overcame racial and socio-economic challenges for the love of music.
