Shipt Sips: Falling in love at The Collins bar
Have you ever been to Birmingham?
It’s where Shipt’s HQ is based, and it’s, well, magical. We’re surrounded by cobblestone streets, rainbow LED tunnels, coffee roasters, historic landmarks, and so much more. Walking around downtown during the week, you can feel the bustle and hustle of the city. The air smells like ambition, creativity, progress with a whiff of street-side buttermilk donuts.
A few blocks down from us is The Collins Bar. This speakeasy-esque bar makes its mark by rejecting drink menus and creating specific experiences for each person in each glass. Ask for something comforting, and get something with smoky whiskey, sweet honey and spicy ginger. In the mood for something fun and different? Tell them a spirit or flavor of choice, and the possibilities are endless.
We asked Josh Schaff, The Collins’ master of mixing, to shake up something special for Valentine’s day, and he answered the call.
We’re in love, and we aren’t afraid to show it. We present to you, Shipt Sips!
Maple Sea Salt Old Fashioned
2 oz Quality Bourbon
1 tsp Grade B Maple Syrup
Pinch of Sea Salt
3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Add Ice, and Stir for 15 seconds or until balanced. Squeeze the Peel of Lemon over glass when finished and drop in.
Pro Pairing: “The old fashioned showcases the whiskey while offering subtle flavors to accent a cocktail pairings with grilled meats and cheeses,” Schaff says.
Honey Come Over
1 oz Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka
.75 oz 1:1 Honey Syrup
.75 oz Fresh Lemon
2 Dashes of Berg & Hauck Orange Bitters or substitute Regans Orange.
Give a good brisk shake to chill, strain into a coupe glass. Top with a dry sparkling wine. Express orange oil over top by squeezing peel for aromatic garnish.
Pro Pairing: “Sparkling wine to me pairs with everything,” Schaff says. “So the addition of local honey and honeysuckle vodka offers a bit of sweet nostalgia for me.”
You grab the drinks, we’ll get the rest.
Happy sipping, Shipters! And cheers to you, this February 14th! We love you ♡
