Jim Dandy Iron Fortified Quick Grits

Microwave: 1 Serving: 1 cup water; 1/4 cup grits; pinch salt (optional). Stove Top: 1 Serving: 1-1/2 cup water; 1/4 cup grits; pinch salt (optional). 4 Servings: 4-1/4 cups water; 1 cup grits; 1/4 tsp salt (optional). 6 Servings: 6-1/4 cups water; 1-1/2 cup grits; 1/2 tsp salt (optional). Stove Top Cooking Instructions: 1. Slowly stir grits and salt into vigorously boiling water. Stir continuously until mixture returns to boil; cover. 2. Simmer over low heat 5 to 7 minutes or until thickened to desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Serve hot. Tips: For creamier grits, use milk in place of water, stirring constantly while cooking. For thinner grits, use a little more water. For thicker grits, cook longer or use less water. Microwave Cooking Instructions: 1. For 1 serving, combine water, grits and salt in a 4-cup microwave-safe measuring cup or bowl; stir. 2. Microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes or until thickened to desired consistency. Serve hot. Cooking times are approximate since microwave ovens vary. Caution: Grits will be hot. Please use caution when preparing grits by either method. Oven safe mitts are recommended.
