The Florio Winery in Marsala looks out towards the bright sea of western Sicily, wrapped by the energy of the winds and brushed by a salty tang from the waves. This 18% ABV fortified wine is full body and offers a long finish with notes of bitter almonds and raisins. Sitting at 300 meters above altitude in red, sandy soil, the vineyards are cultivated in typical Marsala bush-trained vines. Grapes are pressed with a high sugar content. Fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature and a blend of the resulting wine with fortified must, cooked must, and wine-brandy. The wine is aged for almost three years in casks and oak barrels of different volumes.
