This wine owes its name to the fifteenth-century Castello Quadrio di Chiruro (headquarters of the Nino Negri cellars) which belonged to Stefano Quadrio, governor of the Valtellina in the 15th century. The grapes, 90% Nebbiolo, locally called Chiavennasca, 10% merlot, come from the best parcels of the Valtellina Superiore.
