4 Ways We Give Back – Shipt’s Christmas Countdown
4 Days until Christmas!!
Giving is a tradition here at Shipt year round. When we launch in a new city, we also look for opportunities where we can give back to the community and be a force for good! From food banks to non profits, we work to donate time and food to those in need. To celebrate four days until Christmas, we would like to share four foundations and charities we partnered with in 2015!
1) Metropolitan Ministries
Metropolitan Ministries is a force for good for the 1 in every 5 Tampa Bay residents who are currently suffering from hunger. Each day, Metropolitan Ministries serves over 2,000 meals to residents in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Polk and Pasco Counties. This Thanksgiving, we are so thankful to have been a part of the holiday outreach project that provided holiday meals to 23,000 families. Along with other Metropolitan Ministries partner organizations, Shipt provided over 1,000 pounds of food, and on-site shoppers came out for a day of distribution to 800 families
Right in our own backyard, KultureCity is a national organization that provides tangible support to children with Autism and their families all over the country.
Nearly half of all children with Autism are prone to wandering, and through KultureCity’s lifeBOKS program, the organization provides families with the tools to prevent deaths that occur every year from wandering. Each lifeBOKS includes information for these families on steps to take to prevent wandering, and also a Buddy Tag, which works in conjunction with an app to alert the parent if the child is out of a certain proximity, or if the child is in distress.
Shipt distributed special holiday packages from KultureCity, which included toys, a LifeBOKS and a Kindle Fire to children and families that KultureCity is currently serving all over Birmingham.
3) Cam Newton Foundation
Cam Newton continues to break NFL records on the football field this season, but he also has a tremendous impact on his local Charlotte community off of the field. Shipt is proud to partner with the Cam Newton Foundation, which is committed to enhancing the lives of youth by addressing their educational, physical and social needs.
Along with Second Harvest Food Bank, Shipt and Harris Teeter, The Foundation hosted Cam’s Thanksgiving Jam, a special Thanksgiving celebration for over 900 children from all over metro Charlotte.
4) Feeding America
Feeding America is a network of food banks across the United States. During our #Get1Give1 campaign this year, we offered to donate one can of food for every can that was purchased through our app for grocery delivery during November. We donated 1,138 pounds of food and personally delivered it to the local food banks in Miami.
We would like to personally thank all of our Shipt members and shoppers that have made this year so special for us and for those in need. We look forward to continuing the #ShiptGiving tradition throughout the new year!
As a part of our Christmas Countdown, we are making it easy to make a difference in your local community this holiday. Tell us about your favorite local charity or community organization on the Shipt Facebook page. We will choose an organization at random and donate $1 each time the post is shared! Five extra seconds can help make an impact!
