What’s the most rewarding thing about working for Shipt?
I’ve made awesome new friends, learned from many great mentors, and met truly inspiring individuals from all different walks of life. Most importantly, I feel that I get to give back to the community by designing tools and features that connect people and help them make their living. That’s the most rewarding feeling.
What does a day in the life of a product designer look like?
Drinking a gallon of coffee. Just kidding. Every day we try to come up with the best tools or features for the app. For my job, I read a lot about “human-centered” design principles, which are essentially making sure our app is easy to use and can help our community of members and shoppers. Which is core to Shipt’s mission. From the moment an idea sparks, my team and I work over and over until the app is just right.
What’s your top “must-do” for new people in your city?
Hanging out in jjimjilbang! Jjimjilbangs are those huge bathhouses from Korea. They’re full of great amenities – saunas, pools, arcades, movie screens – the list goes on! At a jimjilbang you can do it all. It’s so unique to Korean culture and I would love for people to experience it.
What is your favorite Shipt story?
Not long ago I read a post from the shopper lounge that made me tear up. The shopper was a cancer survivor who needed the means to make money after her long battle. She described how Shipt helped her rebuild a sense of community and support the dreams of her children. The best part was after a few months of working as a Shipt Shopper, she was able to take her family to Disneyland, after years of wanting to go. And that’s just one anecdote – I get to hear stories like this every day.
Who is your dream shopper delivery?
Kanye West for sure. He has an incredible eye for design, and I want him to critique my house. Free consulting only, of course!
